When Hawaiians go fishing they don't say they are going fishing it's bad luck. So instead they say they are going "holoholo," which roughly translates to going for a walk. This painting is a composite of various things I learned while exploring the Bishop Museum Archives. The fishing implements and position of the net in the kane's hands are exact visual translations of my research. The foreground and the background are imagined. |
